The Chizara Basket
by ASAÏ
If you can't go high, go wide! This basket takes up almost no space vertically, yet can hold any item you want to store (or display, for example a nice house plant). The Chizara basket is made from banana leaf, handwoven into a triangular design that is a real conversation starter. Pick it up easily with the handles and add the dark brown charm to your room of choice now.

The Idea
The Chizara Basket was drawn for The Arc Teak Collection — which meant working inside the collection's rules before anything else: one material family, honest thickness, and no detail that exists only to be looked at.
The prototype went through the workshop three times. What survived is the version where nothing further could be taken away without the piece stopping working.

The Designer
ASAÏ are interested in the point at which a craft process becomes a production process without losing the hand.
Their baskets and vessels are made to a pattern, but the pattern is held by a person, not a machine.
