The Makiki Pendant - Black Xl
by Aède Studios, Aède
The Makiki Pendant brings bold presence and quiet elegance in its XL form. Handwoven from natural mendong grass and finished in a deep black tone, it stands out through its sweeping silhouette and rich, organic texture.
Designed to elevate spacious interiors, it adds depth whether placed above a dining table, centered in a living area, or showcased as the room’s defining feature. The layered strands create a soft interplay of light and shadow, shaping a warm, atmospheric glow without overwhelming the space.
Because each piece is handmade from natural materials, subtle variations in weave, contour, and shade are expected. These differences highlight the artisan’s touch and ensure that every Makiki Pendant is genuinely one‑of‑a‑kind.

The Idea
The Makiki Pendant - Black Xl was drawn for The Lumen Collection — which meant working inside the collection's rules before anything else: one material family, honest thickness, and no detail that exists only to be looked at.
The prototype went through the workshop three times. What survived is the version where nothing further could be taken away without the piece stopping working.

The Designer
Aède Studios treat a lamp as an object first and a light source second. Their pendants read as forms in daylight and only reveal their purpose after dark.
The collaboration with Studio Bizar produced a run of woven shades made with makers in Bali, each one signed by the weaver.
