The Makiki Pendant - Natural - L
by Aède Studios, Aède
The Makiki Pendant uses long strands of mendong grass to create a flowing, textured shape with strong vertical presence. Its generous form makes it a natural pendant shade that feels expressive without becoming visually heavy.
Place it above a dining table, in a living room, over a bedroom corner, or through an entryway where the ceiling needs more texture and height. The open grass fibres let light pass through gently, creating soft shadows and a layered glow around the shade.
This product is a lampshade only, allowing you to pair it with a suitable ceiling fitting or plug-in system available in our shop. Electrical components, cable, and light bulb are not included.
As each piece is made from natural mendong grass, small variations in fibre direction, tone, length, and shape may appear. Keep it clean with soft dusting or a gentle brush, and avoid excess moisture, harsh cleaners, direct heat, and prolonged sunlight.
This product is designed for indoor use only. Outdoor use, even in covered areas, may cause damage due to humidity or weather conditions and is not covered by warranty. Any images showing outdoor use are for styling purposes only.

Technical Specifications

The Idea
The Makiki Pendant - Natural - L was drawn for The Lumen Collection — which meant working inside the collection's rules before anything else: one material family, honest thickness, and no detail that exists only to be looked at.
The prototype went through the workshop three times. What survived is the version where nothing further could be taken away without the piece stopping working.

The Designer
Aède Studios treat a lamp as an object first and a light source second. Their pendants read as forms in daylight and only reveal their purpose after dark.
The collaboration with Studio Bizar produced a run of woven shades made with makers in Bali, each one signed by the weaver.
